GFS believes that celebrating families and traditions is an important way of empowering the families we serve. We encourage residents to organize community celebrations that are important to them. Groups have organized birthday parties and traditional holiday celebrations such as Día de los Muertos and Christmas parties
Each year GFS holds an annual community outreach event, East San José Reads Let's Read! / ¡Vamos a Leer! , designed to promote community awareness of the importance of early literacy and parent involvement. The event reaches 150-200 East San José parents and their children ages three to eight each year. During the event, families participate in literacy activities and are given free books to take home to enjoy reading and continue to strengthen their literacy skills.
