NuParent Class is an eight week parent and child education and development program created by the Children’s Bureau. This program serves parents with newborns ages 0-6 months, not only offering information on child development, health and safety, discipline, and guidance, but also providing an opportunity for parents to bond and develop relationships with their newborns. Each session of the NuParent program has a three part structure. First there is a parent/child activity, where parents have the opportunity to interact with their babies through music, movement, and infant massage. This is followed by a Parent Enrichment section during which parents obtain up-to-date information on topics of concern for parents of newborns such as temperament, communication, development of the baby, and routines. Each session ends with Social Support that offers an open forum for parents to exchange ideas and concerns with other families. This is also a time for sharing information on community resources. |
| The NuParent progam was started in 2005 and has served over 100 new parents. |
