Our founding organization, The Grail, an international women’s group, came to the Mayfair Community in the 1960s. They conducted workshops, provided a community meeting place (used by César Chávez), and built affordable housing units on the land where the GFS main campus is located today in East San José. Local families provided input to the project and participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.
This began our long tradition of involving community families in the design of our programs and incorporating their voice in all that we do.
GFS is focused on:
- Ensuring that every child has equal access to a quality early education
- Promoting equitable partnerships between parents and educators to support children’s learning and success
- Lifting the collective voice of families in our community to advocate for policies that benefit families with young children and that strengthen our community
GFS operates internally and externally in concert with a set of core values influenced by the values of our founding organization, The Grail.
We respect each other, our clients, and the larger community.
We seek to increase our impact and scope through partnership and collaboration with each other, our clients, and the larger ecosystem.
We conduct our business with honesty and transparency.
We value equity, inclusion, and dignity for all. We pledge to support and maintain an environment that respects the diversity of the people with whom we engage.
We acknowledge families’ strengths, respect their unique assets, and partner with them to meet their needs. We focus on the parent/child relationship.
Each program and service includes documented expected outcomes, which we measure and review in the spirit of continuous improvement.
